Stay well this winter

Your guide for all winter information, advice, and guidance for Bury residents.
How to stay well this winter

Winter can bring challenges- shorter days, colder weather, seasonal illnesses like colds and flu, and added pressures from the cost-of-living crisis. But you’re not alone. The Winter Well section on The Bury Directory is here to help you stay healthy, safe, and supported throughout the colder months.

This dedicated section provides vital local information, services, and advice, including:

  • Vaccinations to protect against flu and other illnesses
  • Warm spaces within the community for comfort and connection
  • Housing and energy efficiency tips to keep your home warm
  • Financial support and advice
  • Eating well and food bank provision
  • Staying physically active and keeping well

By following the guidance, using the right services, and looking out for each other, we can get through winter together. Explore practical tips and signposting to local support tailored to your needs - all in one place.

Take extra care in very cold weather:

  • Heat your home to at least 18 degrees both day and night
  • Layer clothes and blankets
  • Find out where your nearest community warm spaces are
  • Check in with others - and let someone check in on you
  • Make sure you’re getting all the benefits you’re entitled to, to help with winter costs (call Independent Age on 0800 319 6789).

The Independent Age guide Winterwise, in collaboration with UK Power Networks, has practical tips on staying warm and healthy in the winter months.
