What’s on your doorstep?

International Day of Older People takes place on 1 October, and this year’s theme is “What’s on Your Doorstep?”

As part of this, the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network (GMOPN) is asking people across Greater Manchester to nominate the people, places and services that help us stay active and connected in our communities.

It could be a local café where everyone gets a warm welcome, a community group that brings people together, a park or green space that gets people outdoors, a service that makes life a little easier, or a person who goes above and beyond for others.

Big or small, we want to hear about the things that make a difference in your community.

This is not a competition. We want to recognise all nominations and celebrate the people, places and services that older people value across Greater Manchester.

Anyone can submit a nomination, and we particularly want to hear directly from older people about what they value in their own communities.

Nominations close: 20 September 2026
