Healthwatch Bury Goes from Strength to Strength

Healthwatch Bury welcomes the Government’s confirmation today that it will not take forward plans to abolish local Healthwatch or Healthwatch England.

Ruth Passman, Chair of Healthwatch Bury, said:

I warmly welcome today’s announcement. Ministers have listened to the strong and widespread evidence about why it matters that patients and the public retain an independent voice in shaping the health and social care services they depend on.

“This decision allows us to build on the best of what Healthwatch Bury has achieved locally and across Greater Manchester, and to share good practice across the country.

“The past year has been a period of real uncertainty for Healthwatch staff and volunteers. Their loyalty and commitment during such a difficult time has been remarkable. I pay tribute to them, and this announcement means we can now look to the future with confidence.

It is a great day for patients and the public.”

Andrew Griffiths, Chief Operating Officer at Healthwatch Bury, said:

Today’s announcement is hugely welcome and such a relief after a turbulent 18 months.

"While we have never stopped in our work, we have always maintained that the independent patient and public voice is vital, and the work local Healthwatch organisations do across the country ensures that voice is heard by providers.

We will now focus on building on the work we have already done this year for the communities of Bury and on working hard to ensure meaningful change is made.”

Healthwatch is the independent voice for patients and the public. We listen to what patients say, speak up for them, help them navigate the system and find the right support. We also share patient insight about trends and issues with healthcare commissioners and providers to help shape and improve services.

Healthwatch Bury is very accessible and centrally located at 56–58 Bolton Street, Bury.
