Join us at Healthwatch Bury for a special drop-in session during National Hate Crime Awareness Week

We’re here to listen to your concerns about hate crime and make sure your voice is heard. All feedback will be recorded and shared with the Community Safety Partnership to help improve local support and safety.

What is hate crime? 

A crime or an incident that is perceived by the victim, or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hatred based on someone’s:

  • Race
  • Nationality
  • Religion, faith or belief
  • Sexuality or sexual orientation
  • Gender or gender identity
  • Lifestyle, dress or cultural preferences

Hate crime incidents can include: 
 

  • Physical attacks to people or property, including offensive graffiti or arson
  • The threat of attack including offensive letters, messages or intimidation
  • Verbal abuse or insults including offensive leaflets, abusive gestures or name calling.
  • Any victimisation based on such prejudices can be distressing and have a huge impact – and should be reported.

How to report hate crime?

Call 999 if you or another person are in immediate danger

Call 101 to report a hate crime to Greater Manchester Police in non-emergency cases
