NHS mobile van comes to Bury and Prestwich

This Van Can is a Greater Manchester NHS mobile health clinic in a van which is raising awareness of prostate cancer.
This Van Can

The service is for men, or people with a prostate, who fit the following criteria:

  • black and over age 45
  • if you have a family history of prostate, breast or ovarian cancer and are over 45. This means your father or brother has had prostate cancer when they were under the age of 55 or your mother or sister has had breast or ovarian cancer when they were under the age of 50.

Men, or people with a prostate, who fit into either of these groups can book an appointment at the ThisVanCan roadshow.

You can find details below on how to do this below.

You also need to be registered with a GP in Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester NHS are targeting these people as these factors place you at higher risk of getting prostate cancer. They also know that when caught earlier prostate cancer is often more treatable and men make a full recovery.

If you are over 50 and worried about your risk of prostate cancer, you will not be able to book an appointment with This Van Can but please contact your GP to further discuss.

You can also check you risk of prostate cancer by using the Prostate Cancer UK risk checker.

This Van Can is coming to Bury and Prestwich during October and will be at the following venues:

  • 2 October - Kay Gardens, Bury Town Centre BL9 0BL
  • 4 October - Tesco Superstore, Woodfields Retail Park, Peel Way, Bury BL9 5BY
  • 7 October - Tesco Superstore, Woodfields Retail Park, Peel Way, Bury BL9 5BY
  • 11 October - Longfield centre - Prestwich, Manchester M25 1AY
  • 14 October - Tesco Superstore, Valley Park Road, Prestwich, Manchester M25 3TG

You will need to book an appointment in advance, which you can do below. Please have your NHS number ready.

The van is touring in a number of locations throughout Greater Manchester. Please check this webpage where locations will be updated regularly.

If the van isn’t in your area or you are not able to book an appointment, it’s still important to seek support. If you are black and over 45 or over 45 with a prostate and a history of prostate, breast or ovarian cancer in your family we would recommend that you should speak to your GP to discuss your risk.

How do I book an appointment?

When you book your appointment, let them know which date and location you are interested in.
