Chapter One

Chapter One provides the public with evidence-based information on the causes and effects of gambling addiction, along with self-protection tools, and access to effective treatment and support options, free from the influence of the gambling industry.

There is dedicated information and guidance for those who are close to someone suffering from gambling addiction, which helps them understand what their loved one is going through, and how and why they should help.

By accessing Chapter One, those suffering gambling harm know that they are not alone, that it’s not their fault, and that there is help available.

NHS North West Gambling Service

A service providing specialist addiction therapy and recovery for people affected by gambling addiction or gambling harms.

Anyone aged 18 or over and registered with a GP in the area can access the NHS North West Gambling Service, virtually or in-person at clinics in Preston, Blackpool, Liverpool and Manchester.

You can refer yourself to the service by completing a short online form, or by calling 0300 300 1490 or emailing referral.ngs@nhs.net and leaving a contact number. Alternatively, you can ask your GP or trusted professional to make a referral for you.

Gamblers Anonymous

Gamblers Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help others do the same.

Their website offers various aids for the compulsive gambler including a forum, a chat room, literature and most importantly a meeting finder.

Meetings are the core of Gamblers Anonymous and they have meetings every day of the week. No appointment is needed, just turn up.
