Accessing care during strike action

If you need urgent medical help, especially in an emergency or life-threatening situation, come forward as normal. Call 999 or go to A&E if someone is seriously ill, injured or their life is at risk.

If you have a hospital, mental health, GP, or dental appointment, please attend as planned unless your provider has contacted you to reschedule. If you haven’t been told otherwise, your appointment or operation is still going ahead.

If you have patient transport booked, it will also go ahead unless you’ve been contacted with changes. If you can arrange your own transport during strike days, please do so.

NHS 111

For non-emergency health issues, use NHS 111 online for advice and help getting the right care (unless it’s about a child under five). NHS 111 is free and available 24/7 and offers a British Sign Language (BSL) service.

If you have a hearing problem, use text relay. Call 18001 111 using the Relay UK App or a text phone.

More information can be found on the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership website:

Industrial Action

  • For urgent but non-emergency needs, use NHS 111 online, by phone (free), or via the NHS App (SignVideo and Text Relay 18001 111 available). NHS 111 can signpost you to the right service and give advice.
  • GPs, dental services, opticians, and pharmacies remain open as usual. Some GP practices may be affected if they employ resident doctors. Patients should attend unless advised otherwise.
  • Attend all planned hospital appointments unless told not to attend, same with patient transport services.
  • Mental health services remain open – help is still available. For mental health crisis support, call NHS 111 and press 2 for free 24/7 help.
  • Support the NHS by checking on vulnerable family or neighbours, ensuring they have medication, food, and a warm home, and helping loved ones return home promptly if ready for discharge, or following a stay in hospital.
  • Let some fresh air in when you have visitors. If unwell, stay home where possible to reduce the spread of illness.
