New initiative to provide support to people who sleep rough access health services (GMCVO)

People who sleep rough or are experiencing homelessness in Greater Manchester are to be supported to access NHS services through a new initiative.

Individuals are to receive a simple plastic card bearing the NHS in Greater Manchester logo and stating: “I have a right to register and receive treatment from a GP practice”.

And volunteers who know what it is like to sleep rough are to support people in making appointments, attending at their local practice and in managing treatments.

The “My right to healthcare” cards are being introduced by homelessness charity Groundswell, together with the charity Shelter and the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership. It is being introduced in Greater Manchester from later this month through staff and volunteers who work with the A Bed Every Night scheme.
