Independent Age – Show carers they’re valued

Your support means everything
We want to thank all 825 of you who emailed your candidates in the run-up to the election. Your efforts have sent a clear message to the new MPs that older people must be a top priority for this Government.   But our campaigning doesn’t stop there. We need to keep pushing for a care and support system that works for older people and their families. That’ why we’re supporting Carers Week, which launched last week.

There are almost 1.3 million older carers in England and Wales. Carers are anyone who gives unpaid care to family or friends who have a disability, illness or need extra support as they get older. Research shows that the older a carer is, the more hours of care they provide. More than half of carers aged over 85 provide 50+ hours-a-week of care. Caring saves the NHS and care systems billions of pounds. Yet many carers receive no support. Carers Week shines a light on carers everywhere. Show your support by getting involved.
